Your participation in the study is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Earlier you were informed that the study you just completed was about understanding how men and women recognise faces. In actuality, the study is about understanding the cross-race identification effect. This is a bias that means people are better at recognising people of their own race. The effect, as you might imagine, has very serious implications for eyewitness testimony in legal procedure.

Previous research indicates that when participants are informed of the effect, they try to make up for the bias by concentrating more on the people of colour. To ensure that your answers were uninfluenced some deception was employed. It's regrettable, but I hope you understood the necessity of it.

Please note that the information you were provided with deceived you as to the nature of the study but the rest of the information is accurate.

For any clarification, queries, or if you would like the results of the study when it's completed, please contact Andrew Tong on amt15@hw.ac.uk or 07541772627.
